LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) tanker trailers both involve transporting gases in liquid form, but their properties, storage requirements, and design are different.
LPG road tankers are designed to carry propane, butane, or their mixtures at relatively moderate pressures, typically between 7 and 17 bar. These trailers feature robust steel tanks with pressure relief systems and safety valves to manage the volatile nature of LPG. LPG is stored at a higher vapor pressure, which requires specialized pressure-resistant tanks rather than extremely low temperatures.
In contrast, LNG road tankers are used to transport liquefied natural gas at cryogenic temperatures of around −162°C. These tankers rely on advanced insulation systems and vacuum jackets to maintain extremely low temperatures, preventing evaporation and ensuring safe delivery. Unlike LPG, LNG is extremely cold and low-pressure, so the tank construction focuses on thermal insulation rather than high-pressure resistance.
